Technology

Full composite airframe

Full Composite Airframe – reduces the number of parts and the weight of the structure whilst increasing the strength and resistance to corrosion and battle damage.

Wide, diamond shaped cabin for low radar signature. 2 x sliding side doors and rear ramp flexibility. Automatic folding tail option.

Transmission system

The NH90 benefits from the state of the art technology in terms of transmission in order to achieve unrivalled flight performances without compromise on safety.

  • Four blade main and tail rotor system using composite blades.
  • Fully articulated main rotor with rotor brake; option for a fully powered folding system.
  • Main Gear Box system with a 30 minute run dry capability.
  • Remote Accessory, Intermediate and Tail Gear Boxes.
  • Integrated rotor track and balance.

POWER SYSTEM

The NH90NFH and TTH are designed in order to provide their crews the power reserve they need in the most difficult conditions.

  • Two Turbomecca (RTM 322-01/9 or RTM 322-01/9A enhanced version).
  • Two General Electric (GE T700/T6E1 or CT7-8F5 enhanced version).

INTEGRATED AVIONIC SYSTEM

The NH90 boasts an advanced human machine interface with five NVG-compatible displays and a helmet sight display, integrating weapon, aircraft, and flight data. Its comprehensive avionic suite, including sensors, navigation, and secure communication, is vital for mission success in all conditions. An integrated avionic suite and glass cockpit offer advanced control, simplified interfaces, and crucial information, reducing crew workload.

  • Helicopter communications suite (internal and external).
  • Tactical communications suite and IFF system.
  • Navigation suite including GPS, Doppler, air data and a digital map generator.
  • Plant management including a vehicle monitoring and diagnostics system.

COCKPIT CONTROL AND DISPLAY SYSTEM

  • Full glass cockpit with 4 or 5 multi-function displays and stand-by instruments.
  • Compatible with NVG (Night Vision Goggles) and helmet mounted display system.
  • Inter-seat and overhead console.
  • The cockpit is an integrated workstation for the pilot/co-pilot.

SAFETY / SURVIVABILITY

The NH90 benefits from the long expertise of the main helicopter companies in Europe in terms of safety and survivability.

The NH90 has been designed with safety in mind, therefore it is fitted with a full composite airframe with energy absorbing devices, crashworthy seats, a redundant fly by wire system while all the critical parts of the aircraft are protected against the ice.

FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM

The NH90 is the first military helicopter fitted with a state of the art fly by wire system. This flight control system choice makes the NH90 as the helicopter of choice for the modern armed forces requiring top performance and safety.

Fly-by-Wire Flight Control System – enables maximum performance to be obtained within the flight envelope whilst reducing crew workload. The maintenance and inspection requirements are greatly reduced compared with a conventional control system.

  • Fly-by-wire with automatic flight control system (multi-mode).
  • Quadruplex redundancy (dual digital, dual analogue).
  • Advanced flight control aids.
ONE HELICOPTER for

all missions

The NH90 is built around shared systems, optimising cost efficiency throughout its lifespan. Both the NFH and TTH variants utilise a common suite of systems, embracing the “design once, use many times” approach. This strategy minimizes the design footprint and streamlines Integrated Logistic Support. A unified training system for pilots and maintainers, a standardized maintenance and spares network, and a single core design system collectively contribute to significant cost reductions over the aircraft’s service life.
