Since March 28th, CAÏMAN helicopters from the 1st Combat Helicopter Regiment #1RHC, a unit belonging to the 4th Air Combat Brigade, are supporting the State services in managing the #Covid_19 health crisis.
After helicopter was prepared, some patients were moved and transported within France and Germany.
The unconventional use of the helicopter for this mission was possible thanks to the know-how of the military personnel who knew how to configure the CAÏMAN in order to accommodate infected people. This procedure for transferring patients to intensive care was defined after an experimentation and certification phase, conducted in a very short timeframe by #ALAT, supported by the 2nd NRBC Dragon regiment, in coordination with #SAMU and the health Authorities.
After each transport, the helicopter and the personnel are disinfected by a detachment of the 2nd NRBC dragon regiment. The helicopter is then put back into condition for a new mission.
