MAJOR DEFENCE CONTRACT IN THE SULTANATE OF OMAN NEW SUCCESS FOR THE NH90 HELICOPTER

The Sultanate of Oman has confirmed the acquisition of 20 NH90 TTH battlefield helicopters. The contract has been signed on 24th July 2004 in Muscat by the Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs and the General Manager of NHIndustries (the company owned by Eurocopter (62,5%), Agusta (32%) and Stork Fokker (5,5%)).

The contract also includes a comprehensive support package with a contractor’s field assistance on several bases, with training aids and with mission preparation stations. It is anticipated that the helicopters will progressively enter into service in the Country by 2008.

The NH90 is equipped with full glass cockpit, Flight-by-Wire control system and advanced Automatic Flight Control System together with state-of-the-art Communication, Navigation and Mission Equipment. It features a fully composite crashworthy fuselage fitted with a rear ramp for higher flexibility.

The NH90 RAFO variant is perfectly tailored to the extreme environmental conditions of the Middle East region, being equipped with an enhanced power plant.

The multirole NH90, operated by the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), will greatly strengthen the capability for Tactical Transport, Search and Rescue, Medevac and other utility military missions.

Thanks to its inherent multi-mission and all-weather/day-and-night performance the NH90 will give Oman Armed Forces unrivalled operation capability for the coming decades.

The NH90 has thus achieved its first non-European contract bringing to a total of 345 firm orders and 86 options by 10 Countries.
