The first Serial NH90 presented at ILA 2004 in Berlin.

A major Achievement for the European Helicopter Industry.

NHIndustries and its partners companies, Eurocopter, Agusta and Stork Fokker are proud to announce that the first serial NH90 helicopter to come off the Eurocopter production line in Germany, is publicly presented today at the ILA Berlin Air Show. The aircraft performed its maiden flight on 4th May, at the Donauwörth Eurocopter facility in Germany. In the expert hands of Flight Test Pilots Herbert Graser, Manfred Kuck and Flight Test Engineer Laurent Palcy, the aircraft designated "TGEA01" flew 2 hours and 5 minutes, thus demonstrating the high degree of proficiency and mastery of the NH90 programme.

The today event comes four years after the official production go-ahead was given at ILA 2000 and is commemorated in a ceremony attended by the German Minister of Defence Dr. Peter Struck, a large number of international high-ranking government and military officials, industry and media representatives.

The TGEA01 is equipped with full glass cockpit, Fly-by-wire controls with Automatic Flight Control, and dual bus Core Avionic System. The dedicated Mission System includes: Forward Looking Infrared, Helmet Mounted Sight and Display, Electronic Warfare System, Tactical Control and Tactical Communication System, Weather Radar, and Digital Map Generator. It features a fully composite crashworthy fuselage fitted with a rear ramp which allows the transport of a light tactical vehicle. The power plant embodies two Turbomeca RTM322-01/9 engines. The TGEA01 will form the fleet of 50 NH90s operated by the German Bundeswehr in the Tactical Transport role.

NH90 is the biggest helicopter programme ever launched in Europe, with firm orders for presently 325 units and options for a further 86 signed by France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Greece.

Thanks to its inherent multi-mission and all weather/day and night capability, the NH90 will greatly enhance the interoperability of the European armed forces in NATO and United Nations missions, contributing to the standardization of equipment and to the rationalization of costs, training and logistics.

NH90 HELICOPTER FLIES FULL FLY-BY-WIRE

12/12/2003

We are very proud to announce for the first time on the world that the NH90 PT3 successfully flies today in Marignane with full Fly-by-Wire (without mechanical back-up).

The trial started at 10.30 a.m. during 50 minutes, the NH90 was flown by:
- Philippe BOUTRY experimental test pilot,
- Denis TRIVIER flight test engineer, and
- Jean-Claude RABANY flight engineer.

The PT3 has been converted to the full FBW configuration representative of the serial production.

We remind that four NH90 prototypes (PT2, 3, 4 and 5) were equipped with an initial mixed system, FBW on the pilot station and mechanical back-up on the co-pilot station, fitted in the development phase for safety reasons.

In accordance with the NH90 Programme schedule the PT3 will be dedicated to the system qualification flights planned into the FBW maturity programme, together with the participation of the PT4, next to be transformed in full FBW.

The NH90 first flight of a medium size transport helicopter equipped with FBW ever happened in the world represents a major landmark for the NH90 Programme and for the whole community of NAHEMA, end users, industrial partners, and NHIndustries originating this success. On this occasion NHIndustries is very pleased to mark the concurrence with the Centennial commemoration of the first sustained controlled powered flight of the history of the Wright brothers in Kitty Hawk (12-17 December 1903).

A hundred years of continuous technological evolution in aeronautics to which the NHIndustries Partner Companies largely contributed.

The splicing of the two first serial production NH90 fuselages has just been performed by Agusta and Eurocopter Deutschland, for respectively the first Italian Army and the first German Army NH90 helicopter.

Eurocopter will activate the production on its assembly line at Marignane, by the end of this year, producing the fuselage for the first NH90 to be delivered to the Finnish Army. This will complete the starting of the three assembly lines based at the Partner Company facilities.

An additional assembly line will be set-up in 2003 at Patria dedicated to the production of the NH90s for the Nordic Countries. This demonstrates the capability of the industry to face-up the stringent commitment of the first deliveries scheduled in 2004.

Meanwhile the Partner Companies are strongly progressing in the development and the qualification of all the remaining aircraft and mission systems by means of the intensive use of the NH90 prototypes and the test rigs.

Up to now the NH90 orders total up to 377 units, including 253 firm orders and 55 options for the five NAHEMA Countries, and 52 units and 17 options for the three Nordic Countries.
