NH90 Programme

The NH90 Programme was originated by the needs expressed by the Armed Forces of several European NATO Countries for an innovative Naval/Tactical Helicopter able to face-up the new military scenario of the 2000s.

The concept of the NH90 Programme comes directly from the common studies conducted in the frame of NATO Industrial Advisory Group “NIAG SG14” and operationally detailed in the NATO Staff Requirement.

The Design and Development phase was launched by the Governments of France, Germany, Italy and The Netherlands. The Four Governments constituted NAHEMO (NATO Helicopter Management Organisation) encompassing the Programme Steering Committee and NAHEMA (NATO Helicopter Management Agency).
NAHEMA controls the overall execution of the Programme, is responsible for the Qualification of the NH90 Weapon System and is the interface to NHIndustries for the negotiation, placing and administration of the Prime Contracts for the participating Governments.

The NH90 Programme is today the biggest helicopter programme ever launched in Europe and it represents a major step forward in the Standardization, Rationalization and Interoperability of the military assets.
