In Oslo on 30 November 2001 Major General Ivar Gjetnes, Commander of the Royal Norwegian Air Force Material Command, and Mr. Philippe Stuckelberger, General Manager of NHIndustries, signed the purchase contract for 14 NH90 helicopters and for the option of additional 10 helicopters. After two year’s competition, this follows the NSHP Committee recommendation in favour of the NH90 as the common helicopter, announced on 13 September 2001.
Today Mr. Jan-Erik Enestam, Minister of Defence of Finland, Mr. Eero Lavonen, National Armament Director, and Mr. Philippe Stuckelberger, General Manager of NHIndustries, signed the purchase contract for 20 NH90 helicopters. Today at the FMV office, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration in Stockholm, Brigadier General Mats Westin, of the Swedish Air Force and Mr. Philippe Stuckelberger, General Manager of NHIndustries, signed the purchase contract for 25 NH90 helicopters (including 7 in option).
Few days after the NSHP Committee declaration also the Swedish MOD joins Finland and Norway in the selection of the NH90 helicopter for their Armed Forces.

The Armament Directors of France, Germany, Italy, and The Netherlands and the State Secretary of Portugal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Le Bourget on June 21, 2001, to include Portugal as fifth European Nation in the NH90 Programme.
NHIndustries has been invited for the negotiation phase of the Nordic Standard Helicopter Program. Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden launched in 1999 a common program to replace its old helicopter fleets for tactical and naval operations with dedicated versions of a basic helicopter in order to share acquisition and in service costs.

The governments of France, Italy, Germany, and The Netherlands gave their go-ahead for the production launch of the NH90 helicopter programme on June 8, 2000, during the ILA 2000 airshow in Berlin. This latest-technology helicopter has been jointly developed by Agusta (Italy), Eurocopter (France and Germany) and Stork Fokker (The Netherlands) under the leadership of NHIndustries and the four-nation governmental agency NAHEMA (NATO HElicopter Management Agency). NH90 is the biggest helicopter programme ever launched in Europe.
A distinguished audience saluted on 1st March, 2000, the fifth and last prototype of the NH90 (PT5) at Agusta Cascina Costa facility in Italy. Agusta Chairman and CEO, Amedeo Caporaletti, was accompanied at the ceremony by Mr. Patrick Gavin, Eurocopter CEO, Mr. Siegfried Sobotta, Eurocopter Co-chairman, Mr. C.A.M. Mario Bartoli, NH90 Programme Steering Committee Chairman, Mr. Helmut Heumann, NAHEMA General Manager, Mr. Philippe Stuckelberger, NHIndustries General Manager, other NAHEMA and NHIndustries representatives and an audience of Military Attaches and other distinguished guests.
The maiden flight of the fifth and last prototype of the NH90 (PT5) took place successfully on 22nd December 1999, at Agusta facilities in Italy: the NH90 Programme, which represents a landmark programme for Europe’s defence, has made a further important step forward.
